The traditional lamps encountered throughout Japan, though elegant and ephemeral, remain geometrically rigid. KONKON presents itself as a marker to follow, yet like people, it can move with the circumstances around it. The fabric panels respond to air currents, creating a living presence that softens the typically static nature of landscape lighting—transforming illumination into performance.

Originally Chinese, Japan features stone, wood, or metal lamps designed to illuminate pathways or ornament natural landscapes. These lamps, called tourou, became the inspiration for the KONKON lamp. Unlike traditional lanterns, KONKON is composed of four fabric panels nested at the lamp's upper plane, allowing it to flirt with the air and dance alongside it.
